Mrs. Phoebe Katherine Clanin died November 18, 1914 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George W. Taylor, in Brockway Township, Jackson County, Wisconsin. Mrs. Clanin was 84 years old. She was born Phoebe Katherine Brown on March 7, 1832 in Cleveland, Ohio to Samuel and Phoebe Brown. She was united in marriage on June 19, 1851 in Delaware County, Indiana to Jacob Hazelbaker. Mr. Hazelbaker died September 28, 1852. She married Henry H. Carpenter February 17, 1856 in Delaware County, Indiana. Nine children were born to this union, and eight children are still living. They are: Jane Steiner, of Soldier's Grove, Wisconsin; Elizabeth McKinney, of Appleton, Minnesota; Rebecca Taylor, of Brockway Township, Jackson County, Wisconsin; Phoebe Rodefer, of Millston, Wisconsin; Marjorie LaRue of Bruce, Wisconsin; Jeanette Annett, of Dows, Iowa; Richard Henry Lee, of Popejoy, Iowa; and Morris Andrew "Doc" Carpenter, of Belmond, Iowa. Mr. Carpenter died on December 5, 1880 in Richland County, Wisconsin, and is buried there. On February 19, 1882 she married Thompson Clanin, who preceded her in death on September 17, 1907.
Funeral services were held at the Pleasant View Church on November 20, 1914. Burial followed at the Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls, Wisconsin.
