Services: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lyle Hanson officiating. Interment will be held in Colfax Township Cemetery with a flag presentation by the VFW Post 1856.
Visitation: Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Obituary: Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Violet; daughters Denise Wiemers of West Carrollton, OH; Diane Mallinger of Fort Dodge; Darlene (Mike) Zuege of Charlotte, NC; Danelle (Kent) Knopf of Granger; 9 grandchildren; Amos, Carrie & Wendy Wiemers, Adam & Kyle Mallinger, Jacob & Bailey Knopf, Garrett & Claire Zuege and 2 great granddaughters. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents John and Matilda (Wagner) Dencklau, an infant brother Carl and his sister June Krause and brother-in-law Howard Krause.
Bernard John Dencklau was born April 22, 1931 on the family farm south of Vincent, which is now a registered Century Farm. He attended the area's rural schools. In 1952 he entered the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. During the conflict Bernard had the opportunity to go to Japan for further education. Following the conflict he returned to farming with his father. On November 7, 1954, he was united in marriage to Violet Westling at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Bernard enjoyed farming and spent the majority of his life in this passion. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing with friends. Bernard and Delbert Telschaw spent many enjoyable hours doing carpentry projects. Bernard was an active member in the community. He served as Colfax Township Trustee, long time Colfax Cemetery caretaker, NEW Coop Board Director for 18 years, former Vincent volunteer firefighter and board member and long time active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
