January 8, 1915 -- June 25, 2007

Roberta M. Michalson, 92, of Vincent, died June 25, 2007, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007, at South Enes Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Stone and the Rev. Chris Lang officiating. Interment will be held in Newark Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Charlotte Roberta Tomasia Marie, the daughter of Otto and Phebus (Intermill) Bastian, was born Jan. 8, 1915, on a farm near Vincent. She moved as a baby with her family to Rutland Township north of Humboldt, where she attended country school. Roberta graduated from Humboldt High School in 1932 and received her Normal Training Teacher's Certificate from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught at country schools in Humboldt and Rutland Township. Roberta was united in marriage to Ervin Tillman Michalson Dec. 27, 1939, at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt, and the couple made their home on a farm northeast of Vincent. Roberta was a member of South Enes Lutheran Church in Vincent, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and held offices in the ALCW Women's Society. She was a 4-H leader and member of the 4-H extension board, was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, and enjoyed the Vincent Health Club and ladies' card club.

She is survived by her children Marilyn (Larry) Kriegh of Ankeny, Joel (Donna) Michalson of Eagle Grove, John (Carroll Schuety) of Waverly, and Jan (Rueben) Carlson of Ankeny; her grandchildren, Sherry Taylor, Todd Miller, Tracy (Sean) Irwin, Lindy (Scott) Pfaltzgraff, Jared Michalson, Ross Michalson, Jennifer (Grant) Rinas, Joni (Stephen) Smythe, Jason Michalson; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ervin in 1980, her siblings, Jonathan Bastian, Reginald Bastian, and Ella Bee Soldow, a grandson, Jerry Miller, and great-granddaughter, Hayley Pfaltzgraff. Memorials may be directed towards South Enes Lutheran Church.
