George Washington Salmon Junior, son of George Washington Salmon Senior and Martha Anne Atwood Salmon, was born October 4, 1920 in Valeria, Iowa and died February 13, 2005 at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 9 days. George graduated from Perry High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He was wounded at Guadalcanal. George was awarded several medals before his honorable discharge. George was united in marriage with Lois Loder on September 30, 1944 and became stepfather to Rhonda. George and Lois were parents of three children: Judy, George (Sonny) and Dennis. The family made their home in different locations including Fayette and Eagle Grove. On January 9, 1985, George married Erna Waskow . They lived in Sumner and later lived in Tripoli before moving to Eventide Senior Housing in Denison. George enjoyed sports and was a great Cubs and Hawkeyes fan. He always loved watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sports activities. George was an avid golfer and had participated on bowling leagues. He joined the Masonic Lodge in 1966 and was a member of the Bower Lodge 464 in Eagle Grove and later was a member of the Scottish Rite in Cedar Rapids and the El Kahir Temple in Cedar Rapids. George was also a member of Thomas E. Woods American Legion Post #223.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his son George E. "Sonny" and daughter Rhonda I. Minor; one brother Orville Salmon; and seven sisters: Lena Garland; Estellene "Peggy" Manley; Mary Headlee; Opal Knaeble; Doris Mills; Alice MacNorius; and Katherine Kratz. He is survived by his wife Erna of Denison; daughter Judy Tyler and her husband Les of Randalia, Iowa; son Dennis Salmon Sr. and his wife Shirley of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and son-in-law Richard Minor of Calamus, Iowa. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Richard Alan Minor of Calamus, Iowa; and Deanna Donovan and her husband Craig of DeWitt, Iowa; Bob Conner and his wife Laura of Oelwein, Iowa; Georgia R. Conner also of Oelwein and Connie Conner of Fayette, Iowa; Dennis Salmon Jr. and his wife Karyn of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Timothy Salmon and his wife Stephanie of Cypress, Texas; and Jamie Sue Salmon of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother William Salmon and his wife Barbara of West Des Moines, Iowa; three sisters: Martha McDowell of Woodward, Iowa; Joann Hanson and her husband Roger of Denison, Iowa; and Leone Boruff and her husband Dale of Macedonia, Iowa and sister-in-law Mavis Salmon of Cedar Falls, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
