Robert William Lang, the son of Fay and Mildred (Egerstrom) Lang was born June 26, 1947 in Fargo, ND. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. Robert married Christine Severn on October 26, 1974, at Gillespie, Illinois. Robert graduated from Northwestern Seminary in St Paul, MN in 1978, and became a pastor in the Lutheran Faith. His work in ministry provided him with pastoral duties in Brayton, Boxholm and Urbandale, Iowa. Robert enjoyed being a Pastor and serving his Lord. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America. Robert passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt at the age of 61 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Robert, his parents, and a younger brother, Richard. Survivors include his wife, Chris Lang of Thor; son, Tim Severn Lang of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews and many other family and friends will also miss him dearly.

Pastor Robert W. Lang passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008, following a courageous struggle with recurring cancer. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 21, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Urbandale. Pastor Bob Lang was born June 26, 1947, in Fargo, N.D. His family later moved to La Moure, N.D., then to Minneapolis, and finally to Bettendorf where Bob graduated from high school. Pastor Lang earned a bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, Rock Island, in English Literature and a Master of Divinity degree from Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Paul in 1978. Pastor Lang was ordained on June 11, 1978, into the LCA. He married Christine Alberta Severn on October 26, 1974; they were the parents of two boys, Michael Robert and Timothy Severn. Michael died in 1990 at age 13. Pastor Lang’s first call was to Brayton Lutheran, Brayton in 1978. He then served at Trinity Lutheran, Boxholm, from 1982 to 1985. Due to health issues, Pastor Lang was not able to continue as a parish pastor after 1985, but served the church in a multitude of other valuable ways at St. Stephen Lutheran, Urbandale, where he and Chris were members for many years and as pulpit supply in the Western Iowa Synod. Also, Pastor Lang provided vital support and encouragement when Chris attended seminary herself. Pastor Chris is currently in her first call at Trinity United Lutheran Ministries (Eagle Grove Evangelical, Eagle Grove; South Enes, Vincent; and Ullensvang, Thor). Pastor Bob Lang faced death without fear in the certainty of God’s grace and promise of eternal life. He wrote at one time, “To worship my Lord Jesus Christ with my mind, heart, body and soul [is my goal]. Not to strive for perfection, but to live by grace. To devote time to Bible study and prayer, and service in congregations by teaching. Basically, I hope to live my life with Christ and for Christ and by this grace.”

He will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues. Pastor Bob Lang is survived by his wife, Pastor Chris, and son Timothy.
