Gerald Edward Gatewood, son of Fred and Rosemarie Keller Gatewood, was born May 31, 1947 at Webster City. He received his education in the Eagle Grove and Webster City school system, graduating in 1966. He worked at the Markwardt Service Station, then he started working, in 1968, in the concrete business in the spring, summer and fall, during the winter months he drove semi for a Spencer Transport firm and for a short time he drove for North Central Cooperative at Clarion. He had been in failing health for the past 3 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Chelsa Wilson of Minnesota; brothers and sister-in-law, Charles and Katherine Gatewood of Eagle Grove; Rodney Gatewood of Praire City; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Roger Linderman of Austin, TX; his step father, Phillip Reetz of Eagle Grove; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was involved in drag racing from 1966 to 1969; raced stock cars from 1967 to 2003; formerly played Mens League Basketball and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
