Mrs. Mathis Dies at 84

Mrs. Louise Mathis, 84, died at 11:15 last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Hilpipre, eight and one-half miles northeast of Blairsburg. She had been in failing health the past three years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the French church east of Woolstock. Rev. Frank Woods of Woolstock will officiate with burial in the French church cemetery. Foster's funeral home is in charge of services.

Louise Krieger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Krieger, was born April 18, 1865 in France. [Stampouront, Alsace-Lorraine] She was educated and reared in France and was united in marriage there in 1885 to Alphonse Mathis who preceded her in death while still residing in France. In 1921, she came to the United States with her children, locating in the Blairsburg community, which had been her home since.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by two daughters, her parents and four brothers. She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Mrs. John (Marguerite) Hilpipre of Blairsburg, Robert Mathis of Vincent, Iowa and Alphonse Mathis of Webster City. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Adolph Krieger of Webster City and Mrs. Celine Hanus of Woolstock; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mathis was a member of the French church. Her home and family were her main interests in life.
