Donald William Jacobs of Fort Dodge, formerly of Thor, was able to go with the Lord on March 17, 2008. Don was born January 1, 1935 at home to William and Veggie Jacobs in Mt. Olive, IL. He received his formal education there and also learned his hunting, fishing, bowling and life survival skills, which he enjoyed and used well all his life. He served his country proudly in the Army from 1953 to 1956. He was a member of the armored division and stationed in the DMZ in Korea. Don returned to Mt. Olive and later Litchfield, IL. There he married Midge Hicks and had two girls Vicki (George) Friesland and Brenda (Bill) Hayes. They were later divorced. He then married Barb Burdell and they had a son Donnie. They too were divorced. He moved to Des Moines for employment. He worked for the Saylorville Dam project. While in Des Moines he met and married Jackie Amdahl. They had one son Michael. In 1972, Don and Jackie moved to Virginia and West Virginia where Don again worked on dam projects. They returned to Iowa and live in Radcliffe where Don worked in a lumberyard. In 1978 the family move to Thor were they owned the Viking Lounge. In later years, Don worked for Yatch Club Manufacturing and Farm Egg Produce. He had to retire in 1995 because of his health but kept going, fixing anything and everything for family and friends. In 1998, Don and Jackie moved to Fort Dodge. Don still did little fix-it things and enjoyed fishing till the very end.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; four half brothers, Herbie, Vernon, and Robert Jacobs and J.R. Graham; granddaughter Amanda Jacobs; adopted mother, Betty Amo. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; four children; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grand children; brothers, Tom (Kay) of Oregon, Danny of Missouri, Denny of Minnesota, and Darrell (Denise) of Illinois.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Friendship Haven Celebration Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fort Dodge Hospice or Friendship Haven.
