HUMBOLDT — John E. Sandvig, 87, of Humboldt, passed away October 19, 2007 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Interment will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery at Thor with full military honors performed by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Mr. Sandvig is survived by his wife, Del Sandvig of Humboldt; children, Jane (Barry) Fisher of Folsom, CA, Douglas (Tammy) Sandvig of Johnston, Steve Sandvig of Eden Prairie, MN, and Kent (Julie) Sandvig of Grimes; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Martha Carson of Onalaska, WI; and brother, Arthur (Mary) Sandvig of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise (Clifford) Larson, Edith (Elmer) Saboe, Irene (Bert) Norem, Bertha Sandvig, and Judith (Delmar) Hill; brother, Stanley Sandvig; brothers-in-law, LeRoyn Stensland, Vern Stensland and Ag and Noreen,; many nieces and nephews.

John Edward Sandvig, the son of Jens and Emily (Maage) Sandvig, was born March 16, 1920 on a farm near Thor, Iowa. He received his education in country schools and attended Thor High School. Following his education, John worked on farms in the Thor and Ellsworth areas. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and was stationed in England and Africa. Following his discharge, John Returned home and on February 20, 1949, was untied in marriage to Del Stensland. The couple farmed until 1954 when they built the Kozy Korner Motel in Humboldt, which they owned and operated together with Vern and Ag Stensland. John also worked as a carpenter and following the sale of the motel in 1972; he continued his work in construction until his retirement in 1985.
