April 6, 2005James Allen Shaw, 48, of the Iowa Veterans Home, died on Monday, April 4, 2005, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005 at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel with Chaplain Craig Nelson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Crewe Cemetery in Crewe, Virginia. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Friday at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel with the family present during this time. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Jim was born on January 18, 1957 to Gerald H. and Laura (Tuck) Shaw in Miami, Florida. He attended Eagle Grove High School and graduated from Iowa Central Community College with an Associate in Arts Degree. He entered the United State Army in January 1975, serving on active duty as Hawk Missile Technician in Germany. He then served in the Iowa National Guard for over ten years and was activated for duty in the Gulf War. Jim was also employed by the Iowa National Guard as a Federal Government employee for a number of years. He took pleasure in fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, putting together model cars, doing ceramics and restoring old cars. He loved all mechanical things and working with them, he enjoyed music and was a member of the Des Moines chapter of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.).
Preceding him in death was his father, Gerald H. Shaw. Surviving are three children, Carly Shaw of Humboldt, Iowa, Mason Shaw of Armstrong, Iowa, and Logan Shaw of Maryland; one granddaughter, Larissa Shaw; mother, Laura Shaw of Blackstone, Virginia; brother, Patrick Shaw of Virginia; sister, Deborah Hunt of Wilsons, Virginia; brother-in-law, Ty Hunt; nephew, Ian Hunt; and niece, Hannah Hunt.
