Sara Berg Garrison, 95, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Heritage Court in West Des Moines. After cremation, private services will be held at Resthaven Mausoleum at a later date.

Sara was born June 16, 1910 and was the youngest and last survivor of five children born to Christ and Lena Berg in Clarion, Iowa. After graduation from Eagle Grove High School, she attended Iowa State Teachers College and Iowa State University. She was an elementary and junior high teacher, principal and remedial reading teacher, retiring from the Des Moines School District after a forty-two year career in education.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon T. Garrison, also an educator and farmer. She is survived by two children, Janet (Paul) Linn of West Des Moines and Gordon B. (Evalena) Garrison of Estherville, Iowa; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and two nephews. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Order of Eastern Star and a Sunday School teacher. She loved gardening and perfecting new and different recipes. She traveled widely in the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Memorials may be designated to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
