Esther Caroline Johnson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2008. Born to Carl Nelson and Fredrikke Peterson in Thor, Iowa, she married James Barts Johnson on Nov. 11, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. After briefly living in Manhattan, Kan., Esther and James moved to Wichita, Kan. She worked for Saint Francis Medical Center for over 20 years. Esther and James were charter members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Wichita. She is survived by her sons, Steve and Greg Johnson; daughters, Gloria Wittmer, Glenda Epps, and Cheryl May; brothers, Harry, Hans, Jens, and Clarence Nelson; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A service celebrating the life of Esther will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1101 North River Boulevard, Wichita. Arr.: Cremation Society of KS & MO.
