Margaret Magdalene Hastert Doud, 91, of Grand Island, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a rosary to follow at 7, at the church. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doud was born Oct. 23, 1916, at David City to John and Mary (DeMuth) Hastert. Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Dennis and Denise Doud of Greenwood, S.C., and Roger F. and Shelly Doud of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Dale Tramp of Ames, Iowa, Linda Doud of Greenville, S.C., and Mary and Jack Stolle of Grand Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Annette Hastert of Minnetonka, Minn. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

When she was 3 years old, the family moved to Farwell, where they farmed. She attended St. Anthony's in Farwell for her elementary years and graduated from Farwell Public Schools in 1935. In 1935, they moved to Alton, Iowa, where her parents farmed. Mrs. Doud was united in marriage to Ralph Doud on May 25, 1938, in Alton, Iowa. The couple lived in Oyens, Iowa. She later followed her husband's business pursuits to Webster City, Hornick, Sloan, and Vincent, Iowa, and Wayne and Fremont, Nebraska. The couple moved in 1960 to Grand Island, where she worked in the kitchen of Central Catholic High School for 9 years. In 1975, she and her husband co-managed the advertising sales for the Western Nebraska Register, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Doud was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Society, Christian Mothers, and the Platt-Duetsche Ladies. She enjoyed painting ceramics for 35 years and sharing her labor of love with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; grandson, Scott Stolle; and three brothers. Memorials are suggested to be given in care of the family.
