Fort Dodge MessengerFloyd I. Mericle, 89, of Fort Dodge, died Friday October 31, 2008 at the Bickford Cottages. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 4th at 10:00 am in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 am at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 pm and a vigil at 7:00 pm.
Surviving is his wife, Jane; sons, James Mericle and his wife Linda, William Mericle and his wife Linda, both of Fort Dodge; daughters, Mary Lou Fraher and her husband Dan of Clive, Rebecca Johnson and her Denny of Fort Dodge; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Gleason of Rockwell City; brother, Donald Mericle of Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Mable (Estlund) Mericle; and a sister, Lorena Dencklau.
Floyd I. Mericle was born on November 26, 1918, on the family farm neat Vincent. He attended the country schools near Vincent. On June 23, 1943 he was united in marriage to Jane E. Kearns at Corpus Christi Church and they established their home on the farm. He continued to farm until his retirement and in 1980 they moved to Fort Dodge. Floyd moved to the Bickford Cottages in 2003. Floyd was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 613, Corpus Christi Church, and Plane Crazies. Memorials may be left to the Fort Dodge Catholic School System.
