Fort Dodge MessengerEAGLE GROVE - Betty Jeane Ryan, daughter of Frank and Luretta (Sweiger) Ryan, was born July 2, 1926, in Mason City. Raised in Eagle Grove, Betty met and married her late husband Robert L. Hotz on May 13, 1944. Both were graduates of Eagle Grove High School, Class of 1944. Robert and Betty moved to Illinois where they owned The Hotz Grocery Store in Herscher until returning to retire in Eagle Grove. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church and Esther Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, reading, crafts and volunteering her time to the community.
Betty is survived by her daughters Marie Theisen and husband David of Kankakee, Ill., Robin Hartley of Kanawha, Patricia Hotz of Bartlett, Ill., and son, Doug Hotz of La Porte, Texas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Betty Jeane Hotz, 82, of Eagle Grove, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor L. J. Hartley officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service. A private burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Arrangements were made with Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant child, Sue Ellen Hotz; brothers, Charles and James Ryan and sister, Mary Lou Eekhoff. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
