MANLY, Iowa - Clifford Moroni King Sr., 93, of 155 Circle Terrace, Manly, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2008) at the Manly Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, where full military honors will be conducted by Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in memory of Clifford.
Clifford was born Aug. 18, 1915, the son of Moroni Fuller and Mable Fern (Norcross) King in Woolstock, Iowa. He joined the Navy and was a fireman first class on the U.S.S. Mallory. On June 28, 1940, Clifford married Doris (Masterhan) in Coggen, Iowa, and to this union three children were born. Clifford worked first as a farmer, then after his family moved to town he went to work as a carpet layer for Muller's in Waterloo. In his spare time Clifford enjoyed woodworking, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, and reading Western novels. Most of all he loved spending quality time with his family. He was also a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris King of Manly; his daughter, Donna Jean (Roger) Faught of Manly; his two sons, Clifford (Beverly) King Jr. of Garner, N.C., and Ricky Ray (Peggy) King of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one brother, McKinley Williams King, of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Keith, Elston "Buster," and Richard. Bride Colonial Chapel.
