Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton on Thursday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

Edith was born to Joseph Lemon and Lottie Caroline (Northey) Reaney in Waterloo, Iowa on April 13, 1914. Edith graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1932. She then attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and transferred to and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Edith taught school in Lime Springs and Rowan, Iowa, before settling in Ledyard where she met and on November 29, 1942 married Kenneth Busch. The couple farmed near Ledyard until 1957 when Kenneth was killed at the age of 36 in a tractor accident. Edith was teaching at Swea City at that time and continued to teach there until 1963 when she moved to Nevada, Iowa where she lived and taught until her retirement in 1979. In 1999 she moved to Carroll to be closer to her daughter and entered St. Anthony's Nursing Home in January of 2004.

Edith was a member of the United Methodist Church, Soroptimist International of Nevada, Story County Hospital Auxiliary serving as blood drive chairman for over ten years and a life time member of Phi Mu Sorority. Edith's hobbies included traveling, knitting, playing bridge, and in later years, playing "chicken foot" dominoes with her great-grandchildren and working her circle books!! She cherished her friends and family and enjoyed time spent with them and she loved showing off her "treasures" to all. Edith was a gifted and talented vocal music teacher and this was demonstrated in her later years with the notes and letters from many of her former students. They told her of their love of music and singing because of a teacher called "Mrs. Busch." Her "Early Bird" singers are still discussed at many a class reunion!! She continued to entertain into her 90's at the nursing home, playing the piano to the delight of many.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Caroline (Neal) Hoyt of Scranton; her son, Robert Busch (Diane) of Gainesville, FL; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Busch of Austin, TX; six grandchildren, Kendra (Jeff) Hoing of Newport, NC, Kevin (Denise) Hoyt of Adel, Katina (Mike) Westemeier of Maplewood, MN, Lori (Bill) Goodpasture of Austin, TX, Scott (Kirsten) Busch of Austin, TX, and Toni (Chris) Duguid of Jacksonville, FL; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; a son, Thomas Busch; her parents, Lottie and Joseph; her sisters, Elizabeth Loonan and Marie Colthurst; and her brother, William Reaney.
