June 9, 2003Julia "Peg" Rummens, 94, Webster City, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational UCC with Rev. Dave Vernon officiating. Burial will be in the Galt Cemetery, northeast of Galt. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Monday and at the church from 9 a.m. to service time.
Julia May Larson, daughter of Frank and Claudia Cutler Larson, was born May 3, 1909 on a farm northeast of Dows. She graduated from Dows Public High School. On August 26, 1926, she married John Harold Rummens at Dows. The couple resided at Galt. She was the postmaster at Galt from 1944 to her retirement in 1974. Mr. Rummens died June 6, 1973. She moved to Webster City in 1978. For the past year, she has resided at care centers.
Mrs. Rummens is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Linda Rummens of Taylor, Ariz., Gary and Carol Rummens of Waterloo; daughter, Virginia Reed of Webster City; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Rummens in 1958; her parents; brothers, Carl, Henry, Lyle and Alfred Larson; sister, Elba Menuey.
She was a member of the First Congregational UCC, church circles, National League of Postmasters, Webster City Senior Citizens and RSVP.
