Bricelyn, Minnesota - Alice Shirk, age 90 of Bricelyn passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2000 at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23 at Bricelyn Lutheran Church, with Reverend Ed Nieman officiating. Visitation was at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Interment was at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church Cemetery in Seely Township, Faribault County.

She was born on January 4, 1910, in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Lars and Laura Riskedahl. Her family moved to Alden where Alice attended country school and was also confirmed. She was united in marriage on November 1, 1930 to G. Bruce Shirk in Albert Lea. To this union two children were born: Roger and Gail. Gail passed away in infancy. They resided on the farm west of Bricelyn until 1968 when they moved into Bricelyn. Alice was a homemaker and in 1952 started a new career as a store clerk working for Wolf, Habein, Anderson store, The Hub Clothing Store, and later at Jipson Hardware Store until she retired. She was a member of the Bricelyn Lutheran Church and enjoyed working in the church and community. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a big part in their lives. Her hobby was playing bridge. Alive had been living at The Shepherd's Inn for the past year and recently moved to the Parkview Care Center in Wells.

She is survived by one son, Roger and wife Corrine Shirk of Bricelyn; 4 grandsons, Craig and wife Cynthia of Mankato; Rodney and wife Mitzie of Eugene, OR; Steven and wife Pam of Bricelyn; David and wife Trish of Waconia; 1 granddaughter, Dianne and husband Tim Wegscheid of Shorewood; 13 great grandchildren, Ryan and Laurie, Andrea, Alison, and Amy, Brian, Brooke and Alan, Rebecca, Rachel and Jacob Shirk, Nicole and Adam Wegscheid; 1 sister-in-law, Alice Riskedahl of Albert Lea; 1 brother-in-law, Joe Christiansen of Alden; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bruce in 1970, one daughter Gail, great-grandson Brent Shirk in 1985, 4 brothers: Leonard, Alvin, Ordean and Roy Riskedahl, and 2 sisters: Gladys Riskedahl and Lila Christiansen.
