January 18, 1900Mr. James Hecox, an old resident of this community, died at Marion Wednesday night, January 10th, 1900, after a brief illness.
The remains were brought to Central City and funeral services were conducted on Friday at the Methodist Episcopal Church by F.P. Fisher, the pastor, assisted by the pastors of the Free Will Baptist and Congregational Churches. The remains were interned in the Blodgett Cemetery.Mr. Hecox was one of the early settlers, having come to Iowa in 1854, and settled on a farm abut three miles west of this place, where he continued to reside till nine years ago, when he sold his farm and moved to Central City. He was born in New York in 1829 and was in his seventy-first year. In Ohio, he was married to Miss Hannah Chamberlain, who came with him to Iowa and shared his fortunes up till the month of June 1896, when she was called to close her earthly career.
Eight children were born unto them, five of whom are still living. Henry and Lemuel live in Chicago, Illinois. William is a resident of Clarion, Iowa. Ransom and Mrs. Julia McFarland reside in Central City. They have the sympathy of many friends in this sad bereavement. Mr. Hecox had been for many years a member of the Methodist Church at Paris. He was always known as a quiet, kind, and accommodating neighbor and friend.
