Ruth A. Mickelson, 80, Belmond, died October 3, 2008 at her home in the Belmond Retirement Apartments. Mass of Christian Burial was held October 7 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond with Father Nils Hernandez officiating. Burial was in the St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond.

Ruth, the daughter of John and Eva Schamber Zeiger, was born February 21, 1928 in Belmond. She grew up in the Belmond area and graduated from Belmond High School in 1945. Then she worked for the Civil Service at Great Lakes, IL and then for Western Electric in Chicago until she realized she needed to return to small town life. Upon returning to Belmond Ruth worked at First State Bank until she married Clarence "Mike" Mickelson on April 20, 1950. She loved the outdoors and working on the farm with her husband. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, golfing, watching sports on TV, and time spent with family and friends. Ruth had a great sense of humor and a deep faith. The Serenity Prayer was special to her, as she learned to accept the many things life dealt her, especially her chronic breathing condition. Ruth was a member of St. Francis Xavier, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the St. Francis Xavier Rosary Society. She was also a Gold Star Sister.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and four sisters. Ruth is survived by daughters Nancy (Ron) Harms of Belmond; Kaye (Daryl) Munden of Rochester, and Rose Mickelson of Belmond; son Mick Mickelson and Missy, Travis and Taylor Walrod of Belmond; grandchildren Carrie (Justin) Hanson, Ryan, Jason and Kristen Munden, Maria Mickelson, Matt and Nick Pentico and Grant Mickelson; great-grandchildren Taylor and Abby Hanson; sisters-in-law Eleanor Zeiger and Doris Greenwood both of Belmond; brother-in-law Walter Larson of Rogers, MN; and many nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Buck.
