Anna "Hermina" Wood, 90, of Clear Lake, passed away Thursday, Feb, 10, 2005, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery at a date yet to be determined. Those planning memorials or an expression of sympathy may direct them to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second Street Southeast, Mason City, Iowa 50401, or to a charity of one's choice in her memory.

Hermina was born April 7, 1914, on a farm near Alden, Iowa, the daughter of Herman Steinmeyer and (Anna) Catherine Geis. She graduated from Hayword High School, Hayward, Wis. in 1930. After graduating from high school she completed all of the requirements for her teacher's certification. She then taught students in first through eighth grades at the Round Lake, Wis. school for five years. Hermina married Ed J. Wood on June 15, 1937, in Clear Lake. They lived and worked in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin before returning to Ventura and Meservey, Iowa area to farm in 1947. They moved to Clear Lake in 1981. Hermina frequently talked about the satisfaction and joy of teaching as a young woman during the depression years. She was especially proud of the fact that nearly all of her children, as well as many of her grandchildren, continued their education and/or graduated from college. Hermina enjoyed her family, flowers, music, dancing, playing the piano, crossword puzzles, and crocheting.

Hermina is survived by seven children, Gary and Bettie Wood, Inez, Texas, Karen and Charles Tubesing, Chesterland, Ohio, Steve and Sharon (Thompson) Wood, Norfolk, Va., Ken and Carol (Meints) Wood, Columbia, Md., Byron and Marlys (Eilertson) Wood, Clear Lake, Greg Wood, Carrolton, Texas and Roger Wood, Los Angeles, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Hermina was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 1998; her parents; her brother, Lester; and sister, Esther Lois, who died at birth.
