January 23, 2003DAVENPORT, IA - Lloyd L. Anderson, 91, of Davenport and formerly of Garner, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery in Le Claire. Lloyd was born in Hudson, Ill., the son of Ervin and Myra (Bilbrey) Anderson. He lived in the Kanawha and Garner areas for many of his early years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the first Quarter Master Charter member of the VFW in 1946 in Garner and has been a lifetime member of the VFW, receiving his 50-year pin in 1996. He joined the American Legion in 1946 and was Garner's first World War II Commander in 1947 and Eighth District Vice Commander in 1949. He was also a member of the American Legion in Sheridan, Ill., for 20 years while living in Illinois. He worked for the State of Illinois Correctional Center in Sheridan and retired in 1983 after 27 years. He returned to Garner upon his retirement and lived there until 1993. After an extended illness, he moved to Palmer Hills Retirement Community in Bettendorf, where he lived for 8-1/2 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Cook, and her husband, Jerry, of LeClaire; granddaughter, Kim Lindquist and husband, Eric, of Rock Island; grandson, Brent Cook and wife, Amy, of Allentown, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Logan and Kaylee Jawoisz, Rock Island, Ill., Brandon, Ashley, Abbey and Alexis Cook, Allentown; a brother, Dale Anderson, Mason City; nieces, Virginia Ames, Rockwell, and Dora Jean Mueller, Mason City. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mable Anderson, Bloomington, Ill. Weerts Funeral Home.
