Dick A. Marchand, 78, of 911 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Sunday April 10, 2005 at Fillmore County Hospital, Geneva, Neb. Funeral Mass was held Thursday, April 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Klemme United Methodist Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Newman High School in his name.

Dick A. Marchand was born to Louis and Florence (Sheldon) Marchand August 17, 1926 in Milford, Iowa. He had two older sisters, Leona (Frenchie) and Marge and one younger sister, Donna (Donna Belle). He was named after his brother, Richard, who died before he was born. He attended Milford Public School System and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in Milford. Dick worked at Decker's as a "boner" for 41 years and this is where he met LaVon Larick. They were married on Feb. 9, 1944. They lived in Mason City until approximately 1959 where they attended St. Joseph Parish and raised four children: Gary, Dixie, Vicki and David. In 1997, he married Ruth Pringnitz from Kanawha, Iowa and shared his life with her until his death. He loved playing cards, singing, dancing, fishing and boating, his farm, his lake home, animals, new cars, Snickers candy bars, lemon pie and his two families. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick's Catholic Church and he was a steward of the union at Deckers.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ruth Marchand, of Clear Lake; children, Gary (Desirei) Marchand, of Des Moines, Iowa, Dixie (Mike) Kavars, of Clear Lake, Vicki Marchand, of Mason City, David (Susan) Marchand, of Hinesville, Ga.; step-children; Deborah (Brad) Pringnitz-Hansen, of Maine, Doyce (Margaret) Pringnitz, of Kanawha; sisters, Marge Petersen, of Mason City, Donna Nelson, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; grandchildren, Jackie (Bob) Cummings, Mindy Tingley, Todd Marchand, Bridgette Marchand, Chad (Michelle) Kavars, Kemberlyn (Scott) Anderson, Nate Kavars, Michelle (Steve) Smith, Tami (Jason) Kisner, Ami (Gene) Collins, Cori (Karie) Ewen, Dawn Marchand, Matthew (Tabatha) Marchand; step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jody, Justin, and Julie Pringnitz, 28 great- grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephew, and friends. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVon Marchand; sister, Leona Roth; brother, Richard Marchand and grandson, Johnnie Kavars.
