MASON CITY - Barbara McNutt, 90, of Mason City died Friday (Sept. 19, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will be at St. Ansgar Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service. Memorials may be directed to the Barbara McNutt Memorial Fund.

Barbara M. McNutt was born on Jan. 31, 1918, in Hinton, the daughter of Rev. Walter Lloyd and Elva (Cullen) Breaw. She graduated from high school in Eagle Grove in 1935. After completing a two-year course in education at Drake University in Des Moines, she taught in the elementary grades at Moville, Primghar and Humboldt. In 1946 she moved to Portland, Ore., where she was church secretary at First United Methodist Church. Later she served as church secretary and office manager at Park Hill United Methodist Church in Denver, Colo., where she was employed for 12 years. On Dec. 10, 1960, she was united in marriage to Millard Brown McNutt. They resided on a farm in St. Ansgar until Millard's death on Nov. 28, 1991. Barbara was a PEO member for 71 years and an active member of First United Methodist Church in Mason City.

She is survived by her children, Robert McNutt and wife, Sheri, of St. Ansgar; Dave McNutt and wife, Lois, of St. Ansgar; son-in-law: Royal Dohler of St. Ansgar; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis Kruse and husband, Kenneth, of Denver, Colo. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Millard in 1991; a daughter, Barbara Dohler, in 2006; sister, Madeline, who died in infancy; brother, Lt. Edwin Gordon Breaw, who gave his life for his country on Nov. 4, 1944, in World War II, and sister Metta Matthews, who died Aug. 7, 2001. Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory.
