Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazettePERHAM, Minn. -- Lucille Olthoff Hintzen Steeke, 77, of Perham, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 1997) at Merit Care, Fargo, N.D. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, with the Rev. Del Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, rural Perham. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services today at the church.
Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is in charge of arrangements.Lucille Leona Steeke was born on Jan. 26, 1920, in Kanawha, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Ruth Johnson Nuehring. On March 21, 1929, she was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. On April 9, 1933, Lucille publicly confessed her faith in her Savior in the Rite of Confirmation. Lucille grew up in Goodell, Iowa.
On Aug. 6, 1936, she was united in marriage to Eric Olthoff. Their marriage was blessed with two children. In 1937, they moved to Mason City, Iowa. On July 7, 1948, she was married to Walter Hintzen. They were blessed with three children. In 1967, they moved to the Perham area where they owned and operated Big Pine Resort. Following Walter's death in 1970, Lucille moved to Perham. On Oct. 28, 1972, she was married to Herb Steeke. She continued to live in the Perham area until she passed away at Merit Care, Fargo, N.D., on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at the age of 77, after suffering a series of strokes. Lucille will be remembered as a homemaker who loved her family, her cooking, gardening and had many other interests. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served in the Mary and Martha Society for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Herb, of Perham, Minn.; her mother, Ruth, of Mason City; Iowa; sons, Larry and Rose Olthoff, Mason City, Iowa; Leigh Hintzen, Perham, Minn., Gilbert Hintzen, Moorhead, Minn., and Randy and Linda Hintzen, Frazee, Minn.; one daughter, Beverly Francis Ames, Klemme, Iowa; five stepdaughters, Cheri and Gary Eifert, Fort Collins, Colo.; Linda and Jerry Ronning, Dent, Minn.; Karla and Don Breitenfeldt, Faribault, Minn.; Shirley and Russell Steele, Fairmont, Minn., and Kendra Wolford, Perham, Minn.; three brothers, Orval (Virginia) Nuehring, Mason City, Iowa; Wilbert (Marilyn) Nuehring, Clear Lake, Iowa, and Robert Nuehring of Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Beulah (Richard) Fairbanks and Alice (Joe) Rowe, both of Mason City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her death. She was also preceded in death by her father, in 1981; one grandson, Mark Olthoff in 1961; great-grandson, Matthew Adkins, in 1997; one stepson, Gary Steeke, in 1980; and one stepgrandson, Daniel Breitenfeldt, in 1979.
