Elaine Weiland, 71, of Klemme, died of cancer on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 4, at the Klemme United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, near Klemme.
Elaine, was born on July 30, 1934 west of Kanawha, the daughter of Adolph and Ruth (Paskin) Carlson. She graduated from the Kanawha High School in 1951. Elaine and Vernon F. Weiland were married on January 1, 1953, at the Little Brown Church near Nashua. They first farmed in the Kanawha area and in 1960 moved to a farm near Klemme. Elaine helped with the day-to-day operation of the farm. They retired in 1990 and moved into Klemme. Elaine was a homemaker, was employed at Par Products in Klemme for many years, and also did babysitting. She enjoyed her grandchildren and was "grandma" to many other Klemme children. She was an avid sports fan, she collected souvenir playing cards and cow memorabilia, played bingo, and enjoyed country music.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1993; daughter, Karen Jo in 2004; brothers, Leo and Harlan; sister, Leona Freerksen-Abbas; an infant sister; nephew, Dennis Carlson; and infant niece, Darci Bonjour. Surviving are her daughters, Kay (Joe) Jackson of New Baden, Illinois and Kathy (Verlyn) Olthoff of Klemme; sons, Kenneth (Donna) Weiland of Klemme and Kelly (Deb) Weiland of Klemme; grandchildren, Travis Olthoff, Jenny Olthoff, Jayme (Eric) Dougherty, Brandon Weiland, Joshua Jackson, Jared Jackson, Krystal Jackson, Katie Weiland and K. C. Weiland; brother, Carroll (Beverly) Carlson of Owatonna, Minnesota; sisters, Marjorie Omvig of Kanawha, Maxine (Cecil) Eliason of Kanawha, Jeanie Bonjour of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Janice (Rex) Liekweg of Rockwell; and sister-in-law, Jean Carlson of Kanawha.
