BELMOND - Jamie P. Cook, 37, of Belmond and Kanawha, passed away of natural causes Friday (Sept. 12, 2008) near Kanawha. Funeral services for Jamie Porter Cook will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Jamie Porter Cook will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 16, 2008, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Jamie Porter, the son of Earl and Carol Hayes Cook Parks, was born Aug. 1, 1971, in Dayton, Ohio. At the age of 11, Jamie moved with his family to Belmond. He attended schools in Belmond and graduated from the Belmond High School in 1989. Jamie then attended college in Emmetsburg. Jamie married his high school sweetheart, Tina Janssen, on May 25, 1991. To this union two children were born, Jordan and Keyra. After many years of working construction, Jamie decided on truck driving as his profession. Jamie had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed riding his 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster. A sports fanatic, Jamie was a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team, the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Philadelphia Eagles football team. Of all his pasttimes though, Jamie cherished the time he spent with his children and family the most.

Jamie is survived by his children, Jordan and Keyra, and their mother, Kristina; parents, Earl and Carol Parks of Kanawha; brothers, Russell Jay Jr. and wife Vicki of Indiana, Christopher and wife Angie of Kanawha, Jackson of Kanawha, John and Julie of Indiana, Jimmy and Debbie of Indiana and Marty of Florida; sisters, Serena Short and husband Chris of Indiana, Ruth Apple and husband Bill of Florida, and Hope Baker and husband Mike of Indiana; step-sisters, Teresa Bernard of Nebraska; Kim Cronin and husband Mike of Nebraska, and Tonya Christy and husband Justin of Oklahoma; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; extended family, Brett and Sonja Lobdell and family and Barb and Ted Watne and family. Jamie is preceded in death by his father, Jim Cook; a nephew, Shawn Cook; sister-in-law, Sue Cook; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.

KANAWHA-- Man's death linked to medical problem Authorities are investigating the death of a man found in a ditch near Kanawha. Hancock County sheriff's deputies responding Friday to a call about an accident found the body of Jamie Cook, 37. His undamaged car was found in the middle of the road nearby. A preliminary autopsy indicated that Cook's death was the result of a medical condition.
