Louis G. Bernard, 85, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the University hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient since July 16. He had been in ill health for several years. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Chastain officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Louis G. Bernard, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Bernard, was born Sept. 20, 1868 in Alsace-Lorraine, France. He was reared and educated in France, coming to the United States in 1896 and locating on a farm near Woolstock.
He was united in marriage to Louise Krieguer, and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard had farmed since in the Woolstock and Webster City community. He is survived by his wife, one son, Fred, who lives on the home place; three grandchildren, Marlina, Paulette and Dennis Bernard; one brother and one sister, living in France; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers.
Mr. Bernard was baptized in the Lutheran faith in France, and was a member of the French Lutheran church east of Woolstock.
