Emil August Hanus was born April 15, 1925, the son of August Raynor and Ethel Johnson Hanus at Woolstock. He spent his childhood in the Woolstock area, and received his education there. He entered the United States Army on October 27, 1944, where he was a member of the occupation forces in Korea. He received his honorable discharge on October 28, 1946, at Ft. Sheridan, Ill.
Emil was united in marriage to Lorraine Kepler of Webster City, on February 27, 1948, at LaCrosse, Wis. After their marriage, the couple moved to Eagle Grove where he was employed by Knutson Ready-Mix for 37 years.
Emil Hanus died from cancer at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on January 14, 1989, at the age of 63 years, eight months, and 29 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Raynor, and one sister, Dorothy Connors.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, Eagle Grove; four children, Billy, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Gary (Janice) Lalor, Eagle Grove; Nancy Freeman Hanus, Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Jamie (Patsy) Stepp, Eagle Grove; six brothers, Donald, Eagle Grove; Dean, Webster City; Harold, Eagle Grove; Robert, Webster City; Gary, Riley, Kan.; and Melvin, Webster City; a sister, Mrs. Abe (Norma) Capelo, Quinlan, Texas; and eight grandchildren. The eldest grandchild, Donovan, who is stationed with the Marines, was not able to attend his grandfather's service.
Funeral services where held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 1989. The Rev. Wayne Droessler, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Eagle Grove, officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
