STEWARTVILLE, MN -- The funeral for Richard C. Feltis, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Stewartville. Mr. Feltis, a longtime Stewartville area farmer, died Wednesday (March 26, 2008) of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center, where he had resided since May 2005.

Richard Clare Feltis was born April 9, 1925, in Renwick, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm and attended Vernon Consolidated and Renwick schools. He joined the Army during World War II and served in the Pacific theater. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to farming with his family in Iowa. He was married on Feb. 18, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knierim, Iowa, to Marie Strutzenberg. The couple farmed in the Renwick area until 1956, when they moved to rural Stewartville. They farmed there until moving to Stewartville in 1989. Mr. Feltis was a Pioneer seed corn sales representative for 25 years and retired from farming in 1992. His wife was a homemaker and farmwife, and worked several years at Erdman, and then Boyum Foods, in Stewartville. He was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, and past commander of the Stewartville American Legion Post 164 and VFW Post 8980. He also served as a director on the Olmsted County Fair Board. He enjoyed bowling and time spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cynthia (Lyndon) Lichty of rural Stewartville; a son, Clifton (Lori) of rural Stewartville; five grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Nerem of Lone Rock, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley Ray and Mae Feltis; and a brother-in-law, Gearhart Nerem. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
