Arthur J. Boland, 86, died Monday, December 8, 2003 at Terraceview Living Center, Shell Lake where he resided the past several months. Arthur was born on April 13, 1917 at Armstrong, Iowa to Fred and Minnie (Korrect) Boland. He attended Armstrong Schools, graduating in 1936. Arthur was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Knudson at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Armstrong, Iowa on October 20, 1937. The couple made their home in Armstrong where Art worked for a clothing store, funeral home and Quaker Oats Elevator. Later Art managed Quaker Oats/Cargill Elevators at Sloan, Emmetsburg, Anthon, Renwick and Algona, Iowa. The Bolands lives in Lake City for several years when Art was a District Manager for Quaker Oats Country Elevator Division. He participated in many community activities in the towns where they lived. Upon retirement the couple lived in Renwick, Iowa for several years and then moved to Shell Lake in 2001 to live with son, Denny, and his wife, Rosalie. Art was a member of the Catholic Church and was known for his winning personality and genuine interest in everyone he met.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Shell Lake; sons, Gary Boland of Austin, TX, and Dennis (Rosalie) Boland of Shell Lake; sisters, Dorothy Peterson of Armstrong, IA, Calesta Stefanski of Stillwater, MN, and Theresa Steinberger of Armstrong, IA; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Thomas Peterson and Craig Diehl. Art was cremated, with inurnment to be held at a later date in Britt, Iowa.
