Clem H. Block, poet, lawyer and World War II veteran, aged 89, of Byron Center/Grand Rapids, Michigan and formerly of Renwick, Iowa, passed away on February 25, 2004, at home. He was preceded in death by his parents of Renwick, IA, Claus Block, Jr. (1956) and Anna (Ramm) Block (1973); his first wife of 42 years, Lois Katherine (Geib) Block (1977); his son, David Block (1955); his brother, Arnie Block (1996) of Renwick, IA; and two sisters, Florence Block (1925) of Renwick, IA, and Mrs. Roger (Connie) Gillespie (1999) of Wyandotte, MI. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ruth (Holmes) Block of Byron Center/Grand Rapids, MI; his sons: Kenneth (Beverly) Block of Grand Rapids, MI, and Warren (Mary) Block of Birmingham, MI; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jay (Myrtle) Bump of Moline, IL, and Mrs. Howard (Eva) Steiner of Cooperstown, ND; three brothers, Merrill Block of Rockford, MI, Carroll Block of Thompson, IA, and Kenneth Block of Northwood, IA; Bryon Center step-children, Cynthia Holmes and her twins, George and John, Douglas Holmes, Darla Silverthorn (2001), Daniel Holmes, Sharon Jernigan (2001), Trudy Holmes and Rick (Ellen) Holmes; nine other step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors after a memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 E. Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI, on February 28, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Zaagman Memorial Chapel 2800 Burton St. SE
