Story City, Iowa-- Wallace Iverson, 88, of Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, IA, with Rev. Michael Herschberger officiating. Burial will be at Homeward Cemetery in Ellsworth, IA.
Wallace "Wally" Oliver Iverson was born on February 21, 1915, on his family farm near Popejoy, IA. He was the son of Oliver Bertran and Olive (Bauge) Iverson. He received his education and graduated from Popejoy High School in 1933. After graduating high school, he enrolled at Iowa State in the Herdsman's course at the same time he started farming. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Gene Wierson on March 24, 1940 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Radcliffe. They farmed three miles south of Ellsworth and spent most of their 63 years of married life on their farm. They resided at Bethany Manor in Story City for the last three years.
Wally was involved in many community activities. He served on numerous local and area boards. Because of his involvement with the schools, he was recognized with the "Friend of Education" award at South Hamilton. He also served on the A.S.C.S. committee and was a member of the Hamilton County 4-H Band from 1933-1940. Wally was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth where he had been treasurer and served two terms as a church trustee.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Evelyn Iverson of Story City, IA three children: Kay Lynn and husband Don Boldra of Marshalltown, IA, David and wife Linda Iverson of Luverne, MN, and Karen and husband James Nelson of Story City eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren one sister, Ruth (Lloyd) Swenson of Story City, IA along with other relatives and friends. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Lester Iverson.
Friends may call at Bethany Manor in Story City on Thursday, January 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe, IA is in charge of arrangements.
