Clarence H. Simpson, 79, of 353 12th St. SW, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, all paid at 3:31 a.m. in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services, with military honors: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the chapel after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Survivors include his wife, Iladean; a daughter, Charlene Polzein and husband Ed of Marshalltown; a son, Ronald Simpson of Virginia; three stepdaughters, LaVone Smith and husband Harold of Kansas City, Kan., Shirrie Burmeister and husband Bob of Clarence and Patricia DeMoss and husband Terry of Mesa, Ariz.; a stepson-in-law, Terry DeMoss of Mesa, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marion and Edward; and a stepdaughter, Patricia DeMoss.

Clarence was born April 16, 1920, in Popejoy, Iowa, to Ralph and Margaret Gjarks Simpson. He married Iladean Akin on Sept. 23, 1966, in North Liberty. He worked as a sheet metal worker for Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local Union 263. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 788. Military honors provided by VFW Post 788. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town of Nebraska, c/o Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
