June 25, 2003Donald W. Lambie, 93, of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell died June 23, 2003. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Private interment will be on Saturday at the Elmwood Cemetery near Renwick, Iowa. Donald was born on July 28, 1909 in Dodge County, Nebraska. He graduated from Grinnell College and did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. He was married to Candace Packard on August 11, 1937 in Renwick, Iowa. The couple lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and Mason City before moving to Grinnell in 1952. He was formerly Treasurer and Vice President for Business at Grinnell College. Mr. Lambie was a farmer, businessman, philanthropist and a citizen. He was active in the Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club, the Fortnightly Club, United Way of Grinnell and the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents one brother, Kenneth Lambie and one sister, Velma Martin.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be directed to Mayflower Home Human Needs Fund, 616 Broad Street, Grinnell, Iowa 50112 or to Grinnell College.
