BLOOMINGTON, IL -- Stanley M. Heggen, 94, of 208 Radliff Road, Bloomington, died at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2004) at his residence. His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, with Rev. Knight Wells officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Columbarium, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington; OSF Hospice, 2416 E. Washington St. Bloomington; or St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN., 55057. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Renwick, Iowa, to Lars Heggen and Elisa Maland. He married Edna G. Meyer July 1, 1939, in Chicago. She died Dec. 27, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Lynn (Carter) Pederson, Chesterfield, Mo., and Kathy Brown, Bloomington; one son, John (Dru) Heggen, Varna; four grandchildren, Krista (Jim) Hanson, Kari (Dan) Carmody; Micheline Brown and Mark Heggen; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington. He graduated in 1932, from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., and in 1948, he graduated from University of Chicago with an MBA degree. He retired in 1971 from Biddle Advertising, Bloomington. He was an active community volunteer with the United Way, Area Agency on Aging, Meals On Wheels, Bloomington Historical Society, Parklands Foundation and the Constitution Trail. In 1982, he receive the Col. Sanders Senior Citizens of the Year award; in 1985, the United Way Volunteer of the Year Award; and in 1990, the Exchange Club Award for volunteering. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
