FLETCHER, SMITH, JOHNSON, READER, STEFFENS, DRAY, THOMAN, VENNUM

January 18, 1859 -- May 10, 1937

Following an illness of several months, D. E. Fletcher, 73, passed away at St. Mary's hospital at Ladysmith, WI where he had been a patient for the past eight weeks. Before entering the hospital he had been with his daughter, Mrs. C. C. Steffens for several months. His illness became critical on Sunday and members of the family were summoned. Death resulted from the infirmities of old age.

David E. Fletcher, son of William and Tabitha [Reader] Fletcher, was born in Cambridgeshire, England, Jan. 18, 1859 and died May 10, 1937. At the age of nine, he accompanied his parents to this country. They settled in Whiteside Co., IL. Later moving to Jackson Co., IA, where he received most of his education. He was united in marriage with Florence J. Smith, March 7, 1883 at Clarion, IA. to this union ten children were born, nine of whom survive: Mrs. C. C. Steffens, Rowan; Ira, Milton Junction, WI; Mrs. Oscar Johnson, Los Angeles, CA; Mrc. C. F. Dray, Blue Earth, MN; Mrs. E. W. Thoman, Galesburgh, IL; Harold, Cody, WY. His wife and one daughter, Mrs. Vennum, preceded him in death. One brother, Dan, of Rowan, 27 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren also survive.

The Fletchers lived in Wright Co. for approximately 20 years before moving to Bruce, WI in 1913 where they resided until Mrs. Fletcher's death last year. Since that time he has made his home with his children. He was a member of the Caley Lake church, where funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. N. E. Sinninger officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in the Bruce cemetery.
