SERVICES SATURDAY FOR PETER LUPPEN; PIONEER RESIDENT

Death came to summon Mr. Peter Luppen Sr., age 86 last Wednesday forenoon, Dec. 26, 1945, at the home of his son, 3 miles north of Kanawha, Iowa. In spite of his advanced age, he enjoyed fairly good health up to a few days prior to his demise. He was one of the old residents of this community, having lived in this vicinity for the past 52 years. Peter Luppen Sr., was born on August 15, 1859, in the Netherlands, Province Gronigen. At the age of 22 years he migrated to America with his Uncle, Fred Luppen, with whom he made his home in Grundy County, Iowa, in the vicinity of Wellsburg. On December 1, 1892, he was united in marriage to Della Jans, the late Rev. C. Bode, then pastor at Ackley, officiating. A year later they moved to a farm 2 miles west and 1 1/2 north of Kanawha, and in February of 1917, they made their home on the farm 3 miles north of town. His wife was taken from his side on November 22, 1936, but he continued to live here, enjoying a happy home with his son, Peter. He was summoned from this earthly life on December 26, 1945, at the ripe old age of 86 years, 4 months and 11 days. Mr. Luppen was a loving father and grandfather, a kindly man, loved and esteemed by all who knew him. He and his wife were charter members of the Kanawha Christian Reformed church. During the ministry of the late Rev. Cornelius Bode he was elected as deacon and served continuously as a Consistory member up to his 70th year. He took a hearty interest in the welfare of Zion, being regular in church attendance and in the employment of the means of grace. At the time of the rebuilding of the present church in 1927, he served as a member of the building committee. His departure is mourned by seven children; Emma (Mrs. Okko De Boer), Adrian, Minn., Edd and Peter of Kanawha, Sena (Mrs. George Krueger) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Will and Jennie (Mrs. Harm Vrieze) of Kanawha and Anna (Mrs. Clarence Vrieze) of Britt; 27 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. His wife, his daughter Grace and 3 infant children preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church Saturday afternoon, December 29, at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. D. H. Plesscher officiating. Interment was made in the Kanawha Cemetary.
