Tillie Cleem Bernath, 89, Cavalier, North Dakota died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, in Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier.

Tillie Dykhuis was born Nov. 1, 1907, the daughter of Hinderk and Grace (Lore) Dykhuis, in Alexander, Iowa. As a young child, she moved with her family to Hill Township, Kittson County, Minn., where she attended school. She married Frank Cleem Dec. 10, 1929, in Hallock. They lived and farmed in Hill Township. Frank Cleem died in 1958. She married Edward Bernath Aug. 1, 1967, in Bemidji. They lived in Northome, Minn., until 1985. Edward Bernath died in 1986. She lived in Bemidji before moving to Grand Forks and settling in East Grand Forks. She moved to Pembina in May 1989.

She is survived by daughters, Loretta (Ernest) Rose, Kalamazoo, Mich., Gloria Harter, Browns Valley, Minn., and Verna (Lorne) Loftberg, St. Vincent, Minn.; sons, Iver (Catherine) Cleem, Hallock, Marvin (Mary Lou) Cleem and Allen (March) Cleem, both of Pembina; stepsons, Ed (Dell) Bernath, International Falls, Minn., and Bill (Judy) Bernath, Anchorage, Alaska.; stepdaughters, Doris (Dole) Nelson, Ely, Minn., and Ellen Sunell, Bloomington, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Glen; a step daughter, Sara; and a grandson.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday in Presbyterian Church, Hallock, Minn. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. today, with a 3 p.m. prayer service, in Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.
