Mason City Globe-GazetteMESERVEY - Funeral services for Ivan John Langlitz, 83, of Meservey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church of Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Meservey and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Ivan John Langlitz was born on April 3, 1917, in Meservey to George and Alma (Willer) Langlitz. Ivan received his schooling at Meservey and married Thelma Wiemann on March 20, 1940, in the First Reformed Church parsonage in Meservey. Ivan and Thelma were involved in farming until 1968, when he became custodian at the elementary school in Meservey. After his retirement in 1983, he did seasonal farm work. Ivan's family and friends were especially important to him. He loved his grandchildren and took great joy in spending time with them. Ivan also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed pitching horseshoes and playing softball.
Ivan died on Thursday morning (May 11, 2000) at his home in Meservey at the age of 83. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Thelma; sons, Randall and his wife, Lee, of Aurelia, and Harlan and his wife, Nancy, of Meservey; a daughter, Glenda Von Arb and her husband, Robert, of Alton; six grandchildren, Grant Langlitz and his wife, Roxanne, Lisa Langlitz, Cory and Jody Von Arb, and Brooke and Lincoln Langlitz; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Langlitz. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Leland "Bud" Langlitz. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home.
