Cathryn "Kay" Phifer
June 15, 1923 - August 5, 2008

Cathryn Phifer, died Tuesday in Portland, Oregon, she was 85. Born in Newton Township, Iowa, to Joseph and Regina Jerde, she was raised in Clarion, Iowa, and there married Ernest Phifer in 1943. In Clarion, they ran the New Home Cafe before moving to Richland, WA, in 1951 where she worked for the Tri-City Herald newspaper. She then worked for Seattle First National Bank. After his retirement, they moved to Corvallis, OR, in 1982. She attended Grace Lutheran Church and loved the outdoors. She loved music and enjoyed playing the organ. Her wit and sense of humor will live with us forever.

She is survived by a daughter, Lana Donnell of Portland; 3 grandchildren, Scott, Sean and Erin; and great-grandchildren Emmerson Ocean, Charlie, Poppy and one on the way. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, Corvallis. Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home.
