Dale L. Gates, 68, of Marshalltown, died Feb. 16, 2007, at Iowa Veterans Home. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Dale Leo Gates, the son of Earl and Noy (Blankenship) Gates was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Britt, Iowa. He graduated from Hayfield High School in 1947. He honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1947-1951, where he was involved in the Berlin Airlift Support Operations. On July 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marian Wilcox in Webster City. Dale "Bud" worked at different occupations during his life. Most were jobs outdoors.

He is survived by his sons James Gates and fiancee Shelly Wright of Newton and Michael (Ann) Gates of Scranton, Pa.; grandchildren Michael Jr., Thomas, Brian Martin, John and Jason Gates; one great grandchild; sisters Ruby Taylor of Garner and Mildred Johnson of Rockwell; brother Ray Gates of Ankeny; and brother in law Harold Kahlstorf. He was preceded in death by his wife Marian, brother Harold Gates, sisters Lola Fay Kahlstorf, Lois Dayton, Evelyn Busick [late of Eagle Grove, Iowa] and his parents.
