Funeral services for Jeffery Eide, 95, of Glencoe, Minnesota were held on Sunday, March 7, from Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Sherri Sandoz officiating. Mr. Eide died on Wednesday evening, March 3, 1999, at Glencoe Area Health Center.

Organist was Jan Smith, and the congregation sang "It Is Well With My Soul" and "How Great Thou Art." Also special music was provided by the Sons of Norway. Pallbearers were Lloyd Larson, Donald Ostlie, Albert Teubert, Alan Teubert, Stanley Larson and David Borchert. Interment was in the Bergen Cemetery.

Mr. Eide was born in Kanawha, Iowa, on April 21, 1903, to Elias and Bertha (Sevde) Eide. He was baptized as an infant in Iowa and confirmed in 1917 at the Marmelund Lutheran Church near Pennock, Minn. He was educated near Pennock and later he attended school in Baudette, Minn. At the age of 15, Mr. Eide started working as a farm hand in Iowa and later spent six months in the U.S. Navy in San Francisco, Calif., being discharged early due to major military cut backs. He was employed at various jobs in northern Minnesota, Washington state, Montana, and both the Dakotas, eventually coming to Bergen Township area as an employee of the Amundson farm. On March 25,1933, he was united in marriage to Cora M. Anderson at the Bergen Norwegian Lutheran Church in Bergen Township. The couple rented several farms in this area until 1950 when they were able to purchase their own farm. As well as farming, Jeffery was employed at the Larson Sorghum Factory located next to his farm. Mr. Eide had several hobbies including fishing, camping, traveling the Midwest, gardening, raising flowers, 4-H activities, and history. He also served as a District No. 19 School Board member and was active in the Bergen Lutheran Church serving as a trustee. He also was a long-time member of the Sons of Norway. In 1992, the couple moved into Glencoe to enjoy retirement. Mrs. Eide died in March 1993. Even though the years had slowed him down and he was unable to care for his lawn, he still infrequently used a cane and continued to drive his car.

Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy Eide of Minneapolis; son, Lowell Eide of Eden Prairie; two grandchildren, Brian Eide and wife, Anne, of Lake Forest, Ill., and Christine Eide of Eden Prairie; niece, Marion Cornell and husband, Royce, of Ames, Iowa; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cora; brothers, Guy and Harry Eide; sister, Emily Mathews; and daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Eide.

The Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel of Glencoe handled arrangements.
