Mason City Globe Gazette, IACLEAR LAKE - Ralph W. Olinger, 66, Route 2, died Thursday evening [July 25, 1957] at a Mason City hospital. He had been in poor health for several years and in the hospital about two weeks. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Home. Dr. John DeLong, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Surviving him are his wife, two sons, Kenneth, Clear Lake, and Homer, Rowan; two daughters, Mrs. DeWayne (LaVon) Bridges, Williams. and Mrs. Earl (Ida Rose) Ver Helst, Goodell, 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One brother, Howard Olinger, Ames, and two sisters, Mrs. John Marsh, Swaledale, and Katherine Hakes, Clear Lake also survive.
Ralph Waldo Olinger was born March 4, 1891, the son of Albert and Nellie Olinger, at Nevada. He attended the schools in the vicinity and Jan. 30, 1912, was married to Hazel Crane at Dows. He and his wife farmed in Story County and near Dows for 16 years. They came to Clear Lake in 1933 and farmed for many years in Lake Township.. He retired several years ago but continued living on the farm.
