GALESBURG - Aaron Eugene 'Gene' Horn, 81, 1159 Family Court, died at 6:10 a.m. Friday (May 23, 2008) in Rosewood Care Center. He was born May 23, 1927, in Appanoose County, Iowa, the son of Luther R. and Elizabeth L. Hurd Horn. He married L. Ruth Albert in Cameron on Nov. 7, 1954. She preceded him in death June 9, 2001.

He is survived by two sons, Mark (and Chris) Horn of Hamilton and Guy (and Barb) Horn of Woodhull; two daughters, Gloria (and Jim) Briggs of Wataga and Lorie (and Gene) Briggs of Galesburg; 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles.

He served in the Army from 1945-1947 during WWII. He worked as a high school teacher at Kanawha High School in Kanawha, Iowa, for three years and was a teacher at Brown's Business College in Galesburg for two years. He was a business manager for Poland China Association for a number of years, business manager for McCreery's Motor in Galesburg for 10 years and was business manager for Louis Lakis Ford for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He was raised in Iowa and moved to Galesburg in 1951. He graduated from Moulton High School in Moulton, Iowa, in 1945. He graduated from the former Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State) University in 1949. He was a 50-year member and past president of Galesburg Kiwanis Club. He was a member for more than 60 years and past master of Galesburg Vesper Masonic Lodge 584. He was past president of the YMCA Indian Guides, umpired for Little League baseball program and was a member of a number of bowling leagues. He was of Methodist faith.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with a Masonic service by Galesburg Vesper Masonic Lodge 584 at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Rosewood Care Center Activity Department.
