Fort Dodge MessengerAmy Sandven, 104, of Friendship Haven, [Fort Dodge] passed away July 20, 2008 at Tompkins Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Celebration Center of Friendship Haven with the Rev. Paul Stone officiating. Interment will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. Visitation is prior to the services from 1-2 p.m. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Amy Henrietta Sandven, the daughter of Magnus and Inger (Olson) Sandven, was born June 23, 1904 on a farm near Thor, Iowa. At the age of four she moved with her family to the Sandven farm where she was raised. Following her education, Amy made her home with her parents where she enjoyed giving piano lessons and also taught in country schools and in the Thor school. Following the death of her parents, Amy made her home at Fort Dodge where she was employed by Lutheran Social Services. She then made her home at Humboldt where she served as the secretary for Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for many years. In her retirement, Amy made her home in the apartments of Rotary Ann in Eagle Grove where she was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. She then became a resident of Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. It was at Friendship Haven where Amy recently celebrated her 104th birthday with a party.
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Aleda Fjetland, Genieva Holland, and Myrtle Schumack; and brother, Levi Sandven.
