PELLA, IA - Funeral services for Sadie Sjaardema Kaldenberg, 98, of Pella, a longtime resident of the Sully area, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Pella First Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. J. Mark Beach, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. William Huyser, will conduct services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

She died Sunday at the Pella Community Nursing Home. Survivors are three sons, John of Omaha, Neb., Dewey of Slater and George of Osceola, Wis; eight daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Harris) Van Zante of Pella, Jeannette (Mrs. Jerry) Vanden Berg of Reasnor, Ruth (Mrs. Edward) Hannay of Grinnell, Agnes Masselink of Grand Rapids, Mich; Sibel Hanson of Tucson, Ariz., Dorothy (Mrs. Bob) De Ronde of Newton, Chic (Mrs. Buck) Visser of Pella and Darlene (Mrs. Wayne) Klein of Pella; 39 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha (Mrs. Nikkel) Hugen of Pella. Mrs. Kaldenberg was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rutt Kaldenberg in 1951, a daughter Jo Mc Kenna, a grandson, a great-granddaughter, six brothers and three sisters.

She was a member of the Pella First Christian Reformed Church. The daughter of Douwe and Catherina Van Dyk Sjaardema, she was born Oct. 13, 1891 in The Netherlands. She came to the United States with her family which settled briefly in Colorado, later in Wright County and finally in the Sully area. She grew up in the Sully area. After her marriage to Rutt Kaldenberg March 16, 1913, they farmed and operated a general store in Peoria. Later the Kaldenbergs moved to Sully where they operated a general store until moving to the Grinnell area in 1940 where they farmed. They moved to Pella in 1948.
