30 June 2008Dean S. Olson, 80, of Webster City, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City, with Rev. Michael Kroona officiating. Burial will in the Norway Township Cemetery at Kanawha, Iowa. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center on Sunday from 5-8 p.m.
Dean Sylvester Olson, son of Albert and Jessie Davis Olson, was born June 10, 1928 at Hayfield,IA. He graduated from Algona high school in 1946 then attended Gustavus Adolphus College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he attended Drake University College of Pharmacy graduating in 1952. On August 15, 1948, he married Lucy Etta Light at Ridgecrest, CA. He was employed as a pharmacist with Ford Hopkins Pharmacies at Fort Dodge, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City prior to purchasing Dick Drug at Webster City in 1961. He owned and operated Olson Pharmacy for 31 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement he enjoyed his winters at Holiday Island, AR.
Dean is survived by his wife, Lucy; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Marcia Olson of LaPorte City; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Robert Motto of Bettendorf, Cheryl and Paul Olson-Sklar of Shorewood, WI, Linda and Thomas Donner of Ft. Dodge, Donna and Randell Roberts of Ackley; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Myrtle Alke and Arlene Lindhorst, brothers, Irvin Olson and Sonny Olson and a grandchild Sara Motto.
He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Marine Corps League and Kiwanis.
