HAMPTON- Karl Vernon Butson, 89, of Hampton died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at the Hampton Health Care Center. Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Zion Reformed Church, rural Sheffield with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating the services was the Rev. Arthur J. Zewert.
Karl was born March 30, 1915, at Geneva to Joseph and Wava (Wagner) Butson. He graduated from Hampton High School. Karl married Lena Smidt on Feb. 17, 1953, at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha. Karl was a farmer, and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, camping and farming. He was a member of Zion Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lena, of Hampton; a daughter, Joyce and husband John Kelley of Nora Springs; two sons, Dale and wife Janeen and Darwin and wife Teresa, all of Hampton; nine grandchildren; a brother, Robert and wife Birdell Butson of Geneva; and a sister-in-law, Mathilda Butson of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wendell, and an infant son. Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
